[REVIEW] Our Two Bedroom Story: Akiyoshi Zaizen season 2 The Proposal

OTBS Akiyoshi Zaizen S2 the proposal

After moving into their new place while the house goes under repairs, Akiyoshi and the MC are woken up the next day by a phone call from his father asking him to go to a marriage interview. He turns it down, but soon afterwards the CEO of a company that Seasonelle is looking to partner up with wants to set him up with his daughter, who’s heads over heels in love with him. He turns it down as well, but then things start to go awry in their business negotiations.

Married to his job, it’s understandable that a lot of people would try to get Akiyoshi to meet someone and settle down. He’s at a marriageable age, and has a lot of qualities that makes him a desirable marriage partner. However, no matter how many times he declines the requests he receives from his superiors to meet someone, they keep asking him. It makes it harder now that he’s dating the MC, but keeps their relationship a secret from everyone at the office. You can tell that he’s confident that he’ll always be able to turn down the offers, but still worries over how the MC feels about it. Their relationship as a superior and subordinate at work makes it hard for them to come out about their relationship, and when he’s finally faced with a request that might destroy his career if he turns it down, he knows he’ll end up refusing it but still worries about the repercussions of his decision that could affect Seasonelle.

I absolutely loved the MC in this route. While she does get a bit upset that Akiyoshi doesn’t show any interest in marriage, it’s understandable since Akiyoshi has been receiving requests to meet people and their relationship is a secret from everyone at Shiki Publishing. She does her best to trust Akiyoshi, and her unwavering trust is (IMO) what keeps their relationship together; if she had doubted him for a moment, I think Akiyoshi would have felt that he had hurt her and their relationship probably would have went backwards from there. They both care about each other a lot, and find themselves more concerned with how the other is feeling before themselves. Her understanding that the situation with Kirara, the daughter of Kakyoin’s CEO, is more complicated shows her concern for Akiyoshi, and the fact that she still wanted to be friends with Kirara despite that they were rivals in love amazed me, especially after what Kirara did to her.

Kirara annoyed me a lot, and I have a feeling that not a lot of people are going to be her fans. She is genuinely sorry for what she did at the end, but I still found it hard to excuse what she did. The MC is a goddess for forgiving her =___= I enjoyed this route a lot more than I thought I would, since I was worried about how it would stack up compared to Chiaki’s proposal route. However, Chiaki and Akiyoshi are very different characters, and I think this route fitted Akiyoshi’s situation very well. I highly recommend it if you loved him in season 1, and if you haven’t given the Growler a try, please do so! Happy playing!

    • I’m glad that you enjoyed it! And thank you for agreeing with my opinions on it xD I’m glad that you took my review into account when you got it and hope you continue to come back and read them! >w<

  1. I was dying to find someone who discussed Akiyoshi’s route. He’s the only one I played because he’s just the type of guy I like. As of now I’ve played everything they have released with him on it and I loved both his seasons. I also would not have been able to forgive that Kirara, I mean, I might have left things amicable but I would not pursue a friendship – like you said, MC is a goddess.

    I’m curious if you have played the sub-stories (Christmas special, & new years) which I have to say I was not a huge fan of (specially the Christmas special). He made me angry and I felt I was not given enough option to retaliate after what he put MC through. And they made up way too fast, I was still angry >.<. New Years special I thought was alright but at this point it bothers me that their relationship is still a secret even though they are engaged… and even though Kirara found out and no one else at the office found out?
    The obvious good points of the substories is the art. Absolutely loved all of them.

    • I did play the Christmas and New Years sub story but don’t remember what happened in them since they were released with a while bunch of other sub stories from other games and I played all of them and they’re just a jumbled mess in my head XD
      I think that Voltage decided to keep it a secret since it’s only the second season. I think that in all the routes they’ll come out about their relationships in the third season, most likely in the wedding route (if there is one). Voltage probably has more plot ideas from the MC and the guys keeping their relationships a secret from others, and probably want to develop their relationship a bit more before they come out in the open about it. This is just my speculation though =___=;;

      • Actually, they tell everyone on Season 3.
        Here is an overview.
        They are all having new rules.
        NO INTEROFFICE DATING ALLOWED.
        There are two new characters, one of them is a flirty manager or something like that.
        Kaoru’s route is released first, and his CG’s are available on otomeotakugirl.blogspot.com
        Go to OTBS icon on the right and browse through the catalogue and then you’ll see season 3 with Kaoru image.
        No very interesting, but I don’t want to buy his route, coz I was never a fan of him anyway. Same with all, Akiyoshi is the only guy I like. I have all his stories, that is on the Japanese game except Shared Living. In that, there is a little love triangle. Same with everyone who has shared living.
        In Chiaki Shared living, Kaoru kinda likes the MC, and Chiaki tells him the reason.
        In Kaoru shared living, Shusei likes MC, and MC tells him about the whole Kaoru relationship, so he will leave her alone, but no such luck. Shusei tries to make Kaoru and MC break up…then he sees Kaoru propose to MC again.
        Long story.
        In Minato route, the Kido guy likes MC, and she finds out that he is Tsumugu.
        Long Story made short, I can’t tell everything!
        I don’t know about the English game tho. LOL
        Sayonara!

        • Thank you for letting me know! It sounds like a lot of love triangles and pain ; A ; It hurts because Chiaki is my bias in the game and Kaoru is someone he respects. He just can’t get a break in any of his routes ㅠ____ㅠ Shusei is my second bias so Kaoru’s route is going to hurt as well *ugly sobbing*

      • @Aiko Hikaru Thank you so much for that little heads up, I can’t wait for Season 3. I also have everything from Akiyoshi, he’s my one true Voltage love XD (might have been because he was the first one lol). Now I am super excited for Season 3, I hope they translate it soon.

  2. I’m sure you’re right – that’s why that aspect of the story I can still appreciate. Irl if I was engaged to someone and they ran off on me when we’re out because we don’t want to be seen together I’d be annoyed. Part of me thinks maybe they should have hold of on the actual proposal for exactly that reason… But then the other part of me absolutely loved the season so I’m super torn lol😂
    In Akiyoshis Christmas special they start planning out things to do together for Christmas but he winds up getting invited to a business party and he sorta drags MC along despite that not really being what she wanted to do. She tries to roll with it but in top of that he’s being a pain at work and difficult at home. He sorta says he was jealous at the end and she forgives him but I was still steaming out of my ears when they’re making up. I guess I’m more difficult to deal with than MC is lmao

    • Ahh I think I remember now XD Not everyone can relate to the MCs in these games, and sometimes it can get frustrating. I’m sure you’re not the only who felt that well. I think I did too? (Sorry my memory is fuzzy =___=;;) I can’t wait to see how much their relationship and they as characters change in the future routes, and hopefully season 3 makes it all worth it >w<

  3. Well you see part of the reason why it bothered me was that up until that point I had been able to relate to MC about 90% and this time I was like nope. I still can’t wait for season 3 to come out. Do you have any other otome game suggestions aside from the ones from Voltage? I recently played The Second Reproduction and I thought the story was fantastic, though it is veeeeeeeeery different from anything by Voltage
    ps – totally not trying to get sidetracked on an unrelated theme, I’m just too curious not to ask.

    • The Second Reproduction is on my list to play, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet =___=;;
      Hakuoki is very popular, and is on multiple platforms. There’s a lot of history and politics in it, but I enjoyed the few routes that I played in it a lot. So far I think it’s translated for the PS3, PSP, 3DS and smartphones for Asia (the game is region locked on the play and app stores).
      Dandelion and Nameless are both on my list to play, and I’ve heard a lot of good things about them. Both were developed by Cheritz, and are available on their website and steam.
      For mobile games, the Shall we date? series by NTT Solmare and the Forbidden Romance series by D3 Publisher are popular. The newer Shall we date? games and all of the Forbidden Romance games are more mature than Voltage games, but if you’re okay with that then I think you would enjoy them.
      That’s all I can think of for now ^___^;;

      • That’s awesome, thanks for the suggestions. I’ve heard of Hakuoki but sadly don’t have a PSP, PS3, or 3DS, just a Wii U (I’ve never been much for handheld systems). I think I’ve tried those shall we date? But I’m not a fan of the otome games were I need to dress up my avatar and level it up and such – I think that’s what those are? I might be wrong. I’m going to look up the forbidden romance ones now since I don’t think I’ve heard of them. Thanks again for the suggestions! 💙

        • There are paid versions of the Shall we date? games, and the costs are very similar to Voltage routes. You’re probably thinking about the free ones, but I stay away from those since they take up too much time =__=;;
          And you’re welcome! Any time ^w^

      • I found what you meant with the Shall we date? games, I guess I had only ever seen the free versions and those drove me crazy. I went and found the paid version and played a route on Angel vs Devil and I really liked it. I tried some of the forbidden romance and I wasn’t a huge fan – the stories were short and the romance felt too implied (like I didn’t feel the love grow, so to speak) and some of their “animation” was weird. I do like more mature Otome games (you’ll see the second reproduction is more mature than any of these developers) but it also has good development in relationships which I appreciated a lot. I will be trying out more Shall we date? now that I’ve found I don’t have to use the free versions anymore. Woo!

        • Ahh for the Forbidden Romance series it depends on what game route you’re playing. I’ve only played The Men of Yoshiwara, but I can tell you that Tokiwa and Kagura’s routes have much more development compared to Takao and Iroha’s. I still haven’t played Kagerou’s route yet, even though he was the one I was looking forward to the most ^___^;; I’ve only heard good things about it though
          I’m glad that you found a new series you like though! I started out in the Shall we date? series through the free games as well, but discovered that it’s a lot easier to just buy the routes because I don’t think the time put into the free versions are worth it, though the event stories are nice.

      • I played The Men of Yoshiwara: Kagura’s route and I thought that one had decent development, but there was some weird animation going on in Kagura’s face that I had to overlook in order to get into it, I think it might have been better to leave it still. Maybe I noticed it a lot more because I was playing it on a 10.1 inch tablet. I have not played the other routes yet but I might, Iroha seems cool. The one I thought didn’t have much development was The Amazing Shinsengumi Soji Okita story BUT the animation is so much better and the CG is gorgeous. So they have that going on. I feel like I got way off topic on a board about Akiyoshi, do you have a general discussion board or something like that? (not super familiar with wordpress)
