It’s been several months since Soma and the MC went undercover as husband and wife for an investigation, and the MC struggles with keeping her feelings for him in check. Their “newlywed” life soon comes to an end when they gain the necessary information, but the MC doesn’t have time to dwell on it when circumstances call for them to act as a married couple again due to the mysterious disappearances of people in various locations.
Let me just say here that the beginning of this route made me want to melt into a puddle of goo because of how cute it was ; w ; And then it made me want to cry because it wasn’t real (yet) ㅠ____ㅠ
You learn more about Soma in this route, but in my opinion, the things you learned about him in this route just seemed to verify the thoughts that the MC had about Soma in the first place in his MS1. Some of the things that you learned out of him seemed to come out of nowhere; for example, Goto mentions that Soma doesn’t trust people, even the other instructors. I didn’t get that impression at all in Soma’s MS1, and this trait seemed to be really played up after it gets mentioned, especially towards the end. It didn’t hurt the story in any way, but I think Voltage could have written Soma’s characterization better in this route. He does get decent character development in this route, though it wasn’t as much as I was hoping for.
The MC grows in this route as well, mostly through Soma’s encouragement and the chances he gives her to gain experience on the field. You can see the progress she makes, especially since she helps Soma by noticing some things that he and the other investigators have overlooked. I loved how she helps Soma realize the importance of trust and that he doesn’t have to do everything on his own, and that it’s important to take care of himself as well. I was expecting her to try and hide her feelings from Soma, but it wasn’t to the point that it annoyed me; she also does her best to improve so that she doesn’t hold Soma back as his aide.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this route due to the sudden ending of Soma’s MS1, but I enjoyed it, though it did fall short from what I was expecting. The route just felt extremely mediocre to me for some reason, but that might have been because I was expecting a lot from it. If you liked Soma’s MS1, then I definitely recommend this route; there were various parts where I screamed into my pillows over Soma (/w\) I hope they go more into Soma’s character in his sequel, since it still feels like they haven’t fully explored his character yet to me… but then again it might be me reading into his character too much =___=;; Once again, happy playing!
