Moving to Tokyo in search for a job, the MC is shocked to find herself coerced into a fake marriage instead! Her “husband” Yamato got hired at a certain all-girls high school, and to get the job he lied that he had a fiancée. To make his story believable, he and the MC start living together until the suspecting vice principle believes his lie. Although their relationship started out as fake, the MC and Yamato’s feelings for each other start to change as they spend more time together as husband and wife.
The crew at LI describes Yamato as an “alpha male,” and from the start of the route you can definitely see it. He bossy, confident, and straightforward with what he wants and expects from people. He says that honesty is his greatest asset, but it can come of as too brash and give people the wrong idea of him; however, once you get past his bluntness, you’ll find he’s a thoughtful person who doesn’t know how to show it at times. Although he’s a smooth operator for the most part, he’s rather awkward when it comes to showing affection to someone he really falls for, and like any other tsundere, tends to get angry and embarrassed easily when it’s pointed out XD
The relationship development between Yamato and the MC was done extremely well. It didn’t feel rushed at all, and the changes in their relationship develop in subtle ways that bring them closer. It felt really natural, which was something I appreciated. Though it initially started with them learning about each other to make sure that they don’t slip up in front of others, their attitudes slowly change and they start to grow curious about each other out of genuine curiosity. Even though Yamato teases the MC a lot, I loved how friendly they were with each other; their bantering was adorable to read and it was cute how both of them get embarrassed so easily once they do fall for each other (/w\)
Family and relationships are a big theme in this route, and Yamato’s reason for wanting to teach at the high school has to do with discovering his past. He really opens up to the MC, and it’s surprising to see how insecure he is about the relationship he has with people in his life after he gives the impression of being confident about everything in his life. The MC really gets him to open up and start to reach out to others, and I loved how she was the one who pushed him towards resolving the biggest issue he was struggling with.
It’s been around a year since I last played Yamato’s main story, and I’m glad to say that I loved it just as much this time, if not even more. It felt refreshing after all the recent games; the longer route helped with the pacing of the story a lot, and it’s definitely made me look forward to replaying the other characters as well. If you like tsunderes, then Yamato is definitely for you; once he starts to fall for the MC, his blushing sprite pops up quite often XD I also enjoyed the epilogue as well, and recommend it if you enjoyed the main story. Happy playing!
