[REVIEW] My Wedding and 7 Rings: Kai Fujisawa season 1 Main Story

MWA7R Kai Fujisawa S1 main story

After choosing the seemingly uninterested Kai as her suitor for the month, the MC is shocked when she’s threatened into marrying him! Left with no choice, the MC acts smitten with cold and calculating head of the IT Solutions Group in the public eye. Determined to find a weakness of his that she can exploit, the MC learns that the icy glint in his eyes isn’t all there is to the man. His cool exterior hides a passionate heart inside, but not for romance; his strategic marriage to her is part of his plot for revenge!

Head of the IT solutions group, Kai fits the part with his cool and intellectual personality. Numbers and logic are his forte, and like a computer, he’s all about prioritizing, necessity, and efficiency. He dislikes wasting time, and it shows in his brusque manner of speech; he’ll say what he means straightforwardly, even if it means drawing ire from the people around him. This consequently leads to him having no close acquaintances other than the other special executives. He also dislikes excess and clutter; his studio and workspaces reflect this, since they’re tidy and have only the bare necessities.

Despite his cold exterior, Kai is very passionate about things that he cares about. I think it’s more accurate to say that Kai is a passionate person to begin with, but because of the circumstances he’s gone through, he had to adapt and started close up and distance himself from others. Though it doesn’t happen often, when Kai loses his cool, he lets all his emotions out; unfortunately, because of his circumstances, he has a lot of negative emotions that have built up, but starts expressing them once the MC starts living with him (though not always in good ways).

Kai is very manipulative, and he uses the MC’s weaknesses to coerce her into agreeing to marry him under the guise that they’ve fallen in love. Marriage is nothing but a contract to Kai, who doesn’t understand what love is (which is ironic since the reason why he wants revenge is because of love for another person =___=;; ). The MC finds herself in situation where it’s difficult for her to disagree to his demands, and while she does agree to his terms, she doesn’t give up on trying to find a way out. I loved how she didn’t give up despite how helpless her situation may have felt; she stays optimistic throughout most of the story, whether it’s for her circumstances or Kai’s.

The MC slowly realizes that there’s more to Kai than what meets the eye, and her heart slowly turns to him when she realizes despite his words, he’s actually a gentle and caring person when it comes to the people he cares for. I think Kai starts to fall for the MC because of her optimism; despite his ridiculing her for it, she’s the one who helps him through a lot of tough situations in this story, and he realizes that. The relationship development between the MC and Kai was well done and paced for the most part, but there are a few moments where it develops in rather sudden bursts and didn’t quite go with the flow of the story.

I absolutely loved the plot for this story. It was fast paced and had me wanting to know more; the story definitely builds up towards the end, but it went along with flow. The only complaint that I have is the ending; it felt rather sudden and half-assed. I also think that the confession scene between the MC and Kai could’ve been done a lot better.

I liked this route a lot, and definitely recommend it if you like a route with a good plot (though the ending was a bit meh). Kai changes a lot in this story, and I think my favorite lesson from this route is that everyone is allowed to be happy, no matter what their circumstances are or whatever regrets they may have. Happy playing!

  1. Thanks Yume! The free first episode didn’t exactly leave me wanting to know more. Luckily, I waited for your review for Kai which has left me more curious now. So I shall purchase his route, thanks again!

  2. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to playing more aggressive characters, but I found one scene in the route very problematic. [SPOILER ALERT] When Kai finds out some devastating news, the MC does everything she can to comfort him. I have a problem with the lengths she goes to do it. She offers herself, and he takes complete advantage of it. I felt like he was using her as a tool to let out his anger and frustration. Even though he gives her the option to leave, it’s not a really a choice for her. She has the option of running away or staying and letting him do what he wants. There’s no middle choice of her staying without having to give herself to him. She wants to “save him” and the writers make it seem like this is a vivable option for her. In addition, I had a problem with Kai’s lack of respect for her in this scene. I understand that he was feeling a lot of dark emotions at the time, but that doesn’t mean it was okay for him to be so violent with her, especially since he had feelings for her at this point. This scene is discussed at the end, and he feels guilty about it. However the MC says it’s okay and it’s all wrapped up rather quickly.
    Sorry this comment is so long, I just felt very strongly about what happened. I’m not trying to discredit or argue with the above review at all. I just wanted to put my own personal impression out there. I wasn’t a big fan of the route before I got to that scene, and that scene completely ruined the whole route for me.

    • I’ve actually considered writing an opinion piece on this scene. I didn’t include it in the review because it would just make it longer than it already was and it’s a big spoiler.

      There’s a lot of things going on for both the MC and Kai during this scene, but I think Kai’s aren’t as intuitive because you don’t see the story from his eyes. I want to hold off writing my opinion post on this scene until his POV get released so I can confirm a few things that I think were going through his head.

      I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy the route D: Hopefully the next one you play will make up for it ; A ;

  3. Hi Yume, thanks a lot for the review 😀
    I just finished Kai’s route yesterday and I played it for about 4 hours until midnight, lol XD
    He is my first choice in this game and I don’t regret it at all (except for the ending). I agree with you when it comes to the ending, it was like “What?!?! just like that?”. It’s like rushing the MC and Kai’s relationship to an ending, not very smooth plot.

    But after all, thanks to your review & walkthrough to the super happy ending ^^
    So happy to find your blog, Yume! 😀

  4. Hello Yume, I have been following your reviews prior to the purchase of any stories of my interests in Voltage otome novels. I can’t seem to find your review on Kai’s sequel after the MS. Comparing with Asahi, I don’t really enjoy Kai’s route. Probably I had a great time laughing over the scene on Mr Ando being the donut and also when Kitamura said that there was never a pet dog in his 30 years of service…. That the vast difference in the plot between the two stories just did not convince me enough to go for Kai’s sequel before getting a review on it. Wondering if you by any chance continued in his sequel? Thanks!

    • Hi there Mabel! I did buy his sequel but I haven’t been able to find the time to play it yet. I personally liked Asahi better than Kai as well ^^ Hopefully I’ll be able to post a review soon ; w ;

      • No worries about it as I have completed Kai’s Sequel route. I am not going to reveal any spoilers, but I can say that Kai’s sequel completely redeemed the mediocre MS plot. The plot in his sequel was so different that I can rate him as my 1st character of choice compared to all the 7 beasts. So, take some time to read his sequel soon.
